1. Why the Air Fryer?
The air fryer has revolutionized home cooking. It circulates hot air around the food, giving it a crispy exterior without submerging it in oil. This means:
- Less fat: Significant reduction in calories and unhealthy fats.
- Quick cooking time: Faster than traditional oven-baking.
- Easy cleanup: No oil splatters or spills.
2. Choosing the Right Potato
For the best fries, it's essential to pick the right potato.
- Russet potatoes: Known for their starchy texture, ideal for crispy fries.
- Yukon Gold: Offers a creamier texture with a golden finish.
3. Preparing Your Potatoes
Wash your potatoes thoroughly. Dirt and debris can affect the taste. Peel (or not): Some prefer skin-on for a rustic feel. Cut them uniformly: Ensures even cooking.
4. The Soaking Secret
Before air frying, soak the cut potatoes in cold water for 30 minutes to an hour. This:
- Removes excess starch.
- Prevents them from sticking together.
- Leads to extra-crispy results.
5. Seasoning Makes Perfection
Season your fries for that gourmet touch. Some favorites include:
- Classic: Salt and pepper.
- Zesty: Paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Herb-infused: Rosemary and thyme.
6. The Importance of Oil
While the air fryer minimizes oil use, a light coat enhances crispiness. Use a high smoke-point oil like:
- Avocado oil
- Canola oil
- Grapeseed oil
7. Air Frying to Perfection
Preheat your air fryer for a few minutes. Spread fries in a single layer, ensuring they aren't overcrowded. Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 12-20 minutes, shaking them halfway.
8. Serving Suggestions
Fries are versatile. Serve with:
- Classic ketchup or mayonnaise.
- Cheesy dips or spicy salsas.
- Wrapped in a tortilla with grilled chicken for a tasty wrap.
9. Storing and Reheating
Leftovers? Store them in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes.
10. Mistakes to Avoid
Avoid common pitfalls:
- Overcrowding: Can make them soggy.
- Skipping the soak: Miss out on crispiness.
- Using the wrong oil: Can lead to a burnt taste.

With air fryer.
Will it be the same while frying on gas stove..
@Ramnik Kaur yes, you can make fries on the gas stove. Just make sure you turn on your pan and heat the oil first to make sure that the potatoes don’t stick
@Ramnik Kaur hey

My son got me an air fryer for Mother’s day and I love it! Gotta try this!
Wise son. My mother got me one. I had never heard of them. Now I use it almost every other day. They heat almost any single plate meal up faster, better, and more efficiently than the oven.
@Won’tSeeRepliesit’s better then oven no oil needed
Now THAT looked WINNING! Air fryer fries are usually horrible. To dry and bland.
But this method looked like THE BUSINESS!!!
IKR
U THINK WE CAN USE DEEP FRYER AS WELL
Just did a test run before I made a big batch for dinner and Oh My Gosh these are delicious !!!!!
Thank you for the recipe 🤗
Airfryer fries 🍟:
-Cut potatoes in sheets. Then cut in fries about same size/width.
-Boil then for 7 min with some salt in the water
-Add seasonings (garlic powder, onion powder, paprika. etc)
-Add some oil into airfryer or on fries.
-Airfry for 11 min @ 390F. Shake in the middle after 5 min.
-Add some salt, pepper, or seasonings again if you wish
Mvp ❤ keep up the fine work citizen 🙏🏽
Thank you… but the point of using the air fryer in +90° is not to heat up tge kitchen. Maybe I’ll use the microwave to boil them instead. 🤷🏽♀️
@Wilhelmina Carter i dont think thats a good idea. howd it go?
Thanx so much, very helpful! 💕
Thanks brother!
Just made them, they were pretty good:)
Those look really good! If you want super crispy fries, add a little baking soda to the water and it roughs up the outside which creates lots of crunch once they’re air fried!
Do you rinse the fries to remove the baking soda?
@Craftybakeryes I would rinse the baking soda off other than that you are going to get the taste of baking soda
@CraftybakerI actually don’t rinse them off, it pretty much stays in the water and doesn’t leave any taste!
These come out pretty good. But be careful to not boil them too long or they will be mushy!! And better to season them after airfrying so you can toss them more easily
Ever since I discovered blanching my potato fries, all my chips have turned out better. You can even coat and then freeze the coated chips on a cookie sheet for an hour and then store them in a large ziplock bag and the coating will protect the potatoes from freezer burn.
I was just going to add the same comment that you wrote! Yes that saves you from buying store-bought seasoned fries! 😊 Also obvious that it saves time and having to cut the potatoes and boil them every time they’re ready to go! I do by store-bought seasoned crinkle-cut fries use a little bit of avocado oil spray and air fry for eight minutes and they’re excellent!! Looking forward to trying this recipe! 😊
I tried this but forgot I shouldn’t peel them anyways I’ll definitely do it right next time ❤
Tried this today. Turned out delicious! Thank you ❤️
